City Street Photography

I recently joined a photography group on meetup. It’s a great way to build up your portfolio and meet others that share your passion. The weather was perfect, the models were enthusiastic …yeah, I would say it made for a fantastic day for photography.

It was an unbelievable warm day for New York City, 62 degrees and sunny. It seemed to bring everyone out of the woodwork.

Graffiti Shoot

Although only one model showed up, 5 were scheduled, she did an amazing job. I think alot of it had to do with the cold. The graffiti background made for some amazing shots.

Woodstock, NY

If I could visit a period in time, I believe it would have to be the era when Woodstock took place. The music, the people, the fashion, are just a few of the items that draw me to it. When we got there, we stumbled upon a free, 2-hour, drum and dance session. It couldn’t have made for a better photographic experience.

Ticonderoga

If you have  never been to Fort Ticonderoga in New York, I suggest you should add it to your bucket list. Not only is it a historic site, but the flower garden is absolutely spectacular. You can see for yourself with the pictures below.

“Dead Until Dark”

For those of you that love the True Blood series on HBO, you might recognize the title of this post as the title of Charlaine Harris’ first book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries. Yes, her series has been out since 2008 but I just got my hands on it this week. I absolutely love this book and as I’m reading I’m picturing the characters, the setting and of course, the blood. This book got my creative juices flowing and I decided to capture pictures that would be ”Old World,” slightly Gothic and/or Steam Punk. Yes, that’s a pretty encompassing group. So, here are a couple of shots I took in my house.

Matagorda, Texas

Although today was quite hot for a leisurely day at the beach, my family and I were still able to enjoy it. Below are a couple of pictures from the day, as well as a another picture of my beloved Petey. Check out the pictures of the pelican diving for fish.

Freelensing

I decided to get a little creative today and came across freelensing. Basically this is when you DETACH your lens from your camera. (Drew, if you’re reading this, I promise I was careful with your Nikon). This is a great effect that gives you this in focus and out-of-focus picture. Below are a couple of shots with and without the freelensing. This literally took less than a minute to shoot and minimal editing in Photoshop. I’m still working on the process, but I personally like the effect.
